Hannah wasn't as easy. It's no secret that Hannah is animal crazy. Not for one minute has she ever come and told me she's pretending to be a princess. A frog is far more likely. As a preschooler Halloween was so exciting because she could pick what animal she wanted to dress up as, and there would be the costume to go with it. Unfortunately, the cute animal costumes are not made for kids 5 and older. This Halloween she was rather stressed. I made all types of suggestions of cheerleader, princess, doctor. But she really wanted to be a tiger. Not the cutesy girly (slightly sexy??) cat costumes we found online, but a sabre-toothed tiger, to be exact. And she's only 5, so I decided that while she is still not influenced by peer pressure, I'd find an animal for her. And I hit the jackpot!
A neighbor gave us a bag of hand-me-downs a while back, and I'd put them away for winter. What did I find in this big bag of clothes?????? Leopard print. Yes. Size 6 girls leopard-print sweats and tank top. An interesting outfit on an ordinary day... but for Halloween - PERFECT! A quick trip to Michaels for ears and a tail, and some cat makeup, and Hannah was the happiest leopard trick-or-treater in the neighborhood. And it perfectly suited her personality. The time for princesses and cheerleaders is coming, I have no doubt. But for now she is still my little "alimal".
